Garden by the Sea: A Candle Designed and Hand Poured in Barrington

Some of our favorite things at KED at Home aren't things we've found. They're things we've created.

Garden by the Sea was the very first. Our signature candle was designed here in Barrington and is hand poured in our KED design studio, one candle at a time. From the fragrance to the wax to the wooden wick, every detail was considered with the same philosophy we bring to an interior: what you bring into your home should add something to the way it feels. But even more important to us then scent and the beauty was wellness and ritual. We searched for a candle that could match our goals, clean burning, toxin-free, but couldnt find one. So, we decided to create our own. 

A Wellness Scent Created for the Home

As interior designers, we think about a room with all of the senses in mind.

Of course, there is what you see: the color, texture, lighting, art and furnishings. But there is also how a room sounds, how it feels, and even how it smells.

Scent has an incredible ability to change the atmosphere of a home.

For Garden by the Sea, we wanted something fresh and transporting, but still sophisticated enough to live with every day.

Leafy greens give it a natural freshness. Jasmine adds softness. Bergamot and lemon bring a clean citrus note. Together, they create the feeling behind the name: a lush garden somewhere near the water, windows open, air moving through the house.

Fresh, green and quietly beautiful. It not only smells good, but it feels good.

There is something particularly special to us about being able to say that Garden by the Sea is a Barrington-made candle.

We aren't simply putting our name on someone else's fragrance.

Garden by the Sea is a KED at Home signature scent, and each candle is hand poured right here in our design studio.

For a business built around finding beautifully made things and understanding where they come from, being able to create something of our own locally feels especially meaningful.

And then it goes from our Barrington studio into your home. We can keep an eye on every detail, ensuring each ingredient supports our health and wellness aspirations, and our aesthetic. 

What Goes Into the Candle Matters

We wanted Garden by the Sea to smell beautiful, but we also cared about what we were burning in our own homes.

The candle is made with a virgin coconut soy wax base and clean, natural and phthalate-free ingredients, using natural fragrance and essential oils for a clean burn.

The Barrington Candle We Love to Give

Garden by the Sea has also become one of our favorite gifts from KED at Home.

We love a gift with a story behind it. And this one really does. 

For a hostess gift, housewarming, birthday, thank-you or a little piece of Barrington to send to someone who has moved away, it feels distinctly ours.

And, of course, you don't actually need an occasion.

Sometimes the best reason to light a candle is simply that you're home.

From Our Home to Yours

KED at Home grew from the same belief that has guided KED Interiors for years: home matters.

The objects we live with don't all need to be grand or important. Often, it's the smallest rituals that shape the way home feels.
