Embracing the Elegance: Peach Fuzz, the Pantone Color of the Year in Interior Design

As interior designers, we are frequently confronted with the age-old question: "What colors are trendy now?" While suggesting colors that resonate with your personal taste and the environment of your home remains our advice, we know that color trends are influenced by contemporary events, moods, and global happenings. Our goal is to create timeless spaces, and steer clear of fleeting trends. We do this by balancing peach with neutral hues and the pre-existing tones of the home, ensuring the design will stand the test of time. However, infusing trending hues that encapsulate the spirit of the moment into your home can provide the right amount of modern relevance.

A leader in color trends is Pantone, which recently announced its color of the year for 2024, Peach Fuzz. The announcement of Peach Fuzz as the color of the year for 2024 raised eyebrows, especially for those who recall the peach-dominated aesthetics of the early '80s or their grandmother's kitchen adorned with ruffled peach curtains. Peach Fuzz, with its whimsical, yet endearing charm, is making a stylish comeback in 2024, bringing a touch of nostalgia and contemporary elegance to the home. In fact, we recently used it on a project in Wynstone. Balance with natural colors and the tones of the home so that the design stands the test of time.

This interior design project included a very traditional primary suite, which the homeowner felt was too dark and uninspiring. She wanted something light and bright, a complete change including a palette of natural tones and neutral colors. She specifically suggested peach, and we dove into the challenge of finding just the right shade, not too pink! Often these color tones can seem interchangeable and we were determined to source just the right shade.

Yvette Bass, the lead designer on this project tell us, “I always believe there needs to be two touch points of an color in a space so that peach fuzz shade was introduced in the linen floral shams on the bed, and I found a beautiful lush peach fuzz velvet which we used on a reading chair and ottoman, which sits next to a sunny window. It was the perfect compliment to the soft green silk wallcovering that spans the wall. My client simply loves the serenity of her new room and enjoying morning tea and views from the new reading chair.”

Peach Fuzz embodies a distinct feeling, in this primary suite project it was used to feel both soft and sophisticated. This soft and sophisticated hue fights against categorization, landing somewhere between pink and orange. To us, peach thrives in ambiguity, while fostering comfort and collaboration. We take inspiration from these feelings of warmth and softness, comfort and a bit of playfulness, and use the color to re-create those feelings in our designs.

Peach Fuzz and Its Complementary Tones

Peach Fuzz opens the door to a palette of coordinating colors that evoke the spirit of spring. Consider pairing it with subtle greens, soft blues, and or even neutrals for a harmonious blend that captures the essence of the season. Remember, you can play with the idea of peach fuzz, pushing more towards tangerine, or pulling in more blush tones. We’ve included an image of a recent combination of patterns and fabrics for your inspiration.

Spring Pops of Color: Revitalize Your Space

As we embrace the vibrant energy of spring, Peach Fuzz becomes the perfect choice for injecting pops of color into your interior design. Imagine new outdoor rugs and pillows adorned with this delightful hue. Peach in an all white home adds much needed warmth, while darker rooms, or areas with little natural light will get a bump of spring brightness.

This color is a great way to revitalize small spaces, perhaps as a new wallpaper in the powder room, or a fresh, clean tile in your mudroom. Look for peach in patterns, bold floral pillows are just the right touch for spring and summer. As always, we love mixing elements of nature into the home and our favorite fast pop of color is a fresh bouquet. We asked our good friend, Mike Hines, from epoch Floral for some inspiration from nature.

Peach Fuzz Florals

Mike suggests looking for Princess Roses, Gerbera Daisies, Stock and Poppies in shades of peach, and then adding fresh eucalyptus or softer greens for the perfect spring bouquet.

Peach Fuzz lends itself beautifully to accent pieces or works of art. Change up simple accessories such as candles or decorative books to work this fresh floral hue into your spaces.
